Department of Biochemistry is one of the oldest departments of the Institute. It was established in year 1949 and privileged with first headship of Prof. Kamala Sohonie, the first Indian Lady Ph.D. in Science and later become the Director of this Institute. The department was established to conduct the both undergraduate (B.Sc. Biochemistry) and post-graduate (M.Sc. Biochemistry), M.Sc. by research and Ph.D. courses. Presently, the department offers post-graduation courses like M.Sc. by papers (16 seats), M.Sc. by research (depending on availability of Guide) and Ph.D. in Biochemistry (depending on availability of Guide). Presently, there are two permanent faculty and two non-teaching staff are working in the department. And the teaching workload is assisted by few CHB staff.
